The state of Florida is practically synonymous with spring break and has been since your grandma was a co-ed. That’s why any spring breaker headed to Florida has some tough choices to make—Gulf Coast vs. Atlantic, glam vs. collegiate. The good news is that with top destinations like Panama City Beach, Daytona Beach and South Beach, you can’t go wrong. Spring break in Florida is where it’s at, and DexKnows is your guide.
Playtime at Panama City Beach
Located on the sparkling, turquoise blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Panama City Beach is a frequent star of MTV’s “Spring Break.” Plus, it’s the self-proclaimed “Spring Break Capital of the World.” (Devotees of the other Florida destinations covered here are free to disagree.) The party goes on until the wee hours at Panama City hotspots such as Spinnaker Beach Club, which has big plans for its spring break 2013 “Mega Beach Party.” Spinnaker offers an open-air beach bar as well as the indoor Groove Room.
Spinnaker is just one of many Panama City Beach hotspots.
Daydreams of Daytona Beach
If the Atlantic coast is more your speed, make your way to Daytona Beach, which offers 23 miles of sandy white beaches, 11 of which are open to vehicles. Daytona is also only a little more than an hour of driving away from Orlando, so if you want to take a detour to Walt Disney World or Universal Orlando (Harry Potter, anyone?), then Daytona is your best bet. Plus, during 2013 Bike Week (March 8-17), you can get in touch with your inner wild child along with thousands of other motorcycle enthusiasts.

The sexy and sultry on South Beach
If your ideal spring break location is more glamorous than collegiate, head straight for South Beach, a neighborhood of Miami Beach. This is where the rich, the beautiful and the famous come to play, and there’s a beach for every taste. Locals and out-of-towners alike visit Lummus Park and Public Beach for sunbathing, jogging and in-line skating. The 12th Street Beach is a gathering spot for the gay and lesbian community. Haulover Beach is clothing-optional.
After a day of sun and surf, you’ll party like a rock star at South Beach’s trendy nightclubs and restaurants.
With more than 663 miles of beaches, Florida’s coastline deserves its reputation as a top spring break destination. Don’t forget your sunscreen!
