Looking for a way to say “Be Mine” online? Check out these five fun and creative ecard sites for Valentine’s Day that offer something for everyone. After you’ve sent your virtual valentine, visit the DexKnows Restaurants Resource Guide to plan a romantic outing. (And don’t forget the flowers and chocolates.)
Worth a Thousand Words
Speak volumes this Valentine’s Day with a handcrafted ecard from Ojolie.com. Artwork and animation are designed by Danish artist Frederikke, who founded the website several years ago with her husband. You can fully customize your ecard with a personal message and receive an email notification when it has been viewed. Choose from a selection of free ecards, or subscribe to the site for $12 a year ($18 for two years) and take your pick of the artist’s original and whimsical creations.
Kids love sending valentines, especially to Mom and Dad. The ecards available on the PBS KIDS website are ideal for the occasion, featuring beloved characters from “Clifford” and “Sesame Street.” Your child can also print valentine-themed pictures to color or sets of valentine cards to cut out and give to school friends. Printable projects and ecards are free; registration is not required.
Tongue in Cheek
If you and your sweetheart are nonconformists, someecards.com offers a subversive selection of ecards that will make you laugh while lampooning the holiday. Send a valentine that says “I want to grow old and disgusting with you” or “I’m ready to change my Facebook relationship status if you are,” or pick something completely over the top (and probably not safe for work). All ecards are free. A disclaimer on the site cautions that it’s not intended for people under 18.
A Longstanding Tradition
Founded in 1910, Hallmark combines greeting card tradition with modern technology in a collection of ecards for every occasion. Valentine’s Day ecards feature Snoopy, Hoops & Yoyo and many other classic designs with interactive animations and music. For an additional fee, you can attach a Gift Wish certificate, redeemable for a gift card to more than 350 merchants throughout the United States (handy if you don’t have time to shop). Free ecards are available. Premium ecards require a $12 annual subscription, which also gets you a 15 percent discount on Hallmark.com greeting cards and party products.
A Personal Touch
Use personal photos and images from your files, along with customizable templates and greetings, to create Valentine’s Day ecards from Smilebox.com. The process is simple: Download a free software app, import your photos, create and send your ecard. You’re only limited by your imagination. Templates include music, artwork and animations. You can also share your creations on Facebook.
Send a virtual hug on Feb. 14 with these great ecard sites, and check out the Dex listings before heading out to shop for your valentine.
